What problems you are protected from with travel insurance?

24 Dec 2011 Posted by | Comments

travel insuranceRisks have always been a part of our everyday life. The first official insurance company appeared in 1769 and their main idea is actual today – to take the premiums of consumers as a variety of resources to give back to clients who experience unexpected accidents, but covered. So it’s really the secret, expecting the unexpected and make sure you’re covered, especially when traveling. Doesn’t matter if your trip is a weekend with relatives or a cruise around the world, there are many good reasons for travel insurance.

If you become ill or are injured during your travel, your travel insurance gives you financial coverage. If your flight is canceled or delayed then your travel insurance should help. Depending on the coverage available, a room for the night and even the home travel alternatives may be included. Even if you have a preexisting medical problem and it occurs while you’re on vacation, as long as you have informed your insurance company prior to travel, you must be covered. What will you do when your luggage is stolen? Yes, it happens all the time. There are organized gangs who work in airports doing just that. Guess what? You need travel insurance. You’re in a foreign country far from home. Either you lose or have stolen, your vacation fund. You will need your help and fast. Again, travel insurance is a must. What with global warming and economic pressure to holiday destinations increasingly built in potentially dangerous territory. Who would want to be in Thailand this Christmas day? Travel insurance will help if you have to get out quickly. It can be very difficult to drive on the wrong side of the road in a strange country. Everything can happen.

Another important thing to mention when buying insurance, including travel insurance, is the fine print. It is important to know before you go what is excluded, not only included. So, always read the fine print. For example, accidental coverage is not provided in cases of impaired driving, driving under the influence of narcotic substances etc. Exclusions are also provided for accidents in extreme sports like bungee jumping, racing Car, scuba diving, rafting, flying (except passengers in regular airliners), gliding, skiing, bike racing, diving, mountaineering, windsurfing etc. The list is long (insert to potentially dangerous sport your favorite here). This means that in case of accidents in these situations the insurance company is not obligated to pay any amount to the insured.
