Worried that you may be unfairly dismissed, paid inadequate redundancy, or mistreated in some other way by your employer?

Legal expenses cover, which pays solicitors bills in the event of a dispute which could include a boundary disagreement with a neighbour, a medical negligence or an injury claim can be added to most buildings or home contents policies for an extra charge, typically about 25 a year.

About half of policyholders buy it. Many view it as an expensive add-on at a time when premiums on essential insurances are rocketing.

Father & daughter do wedding dance


Father and daughter dances are becoming increasingly more popular at weddings. The tradition was that the bride and groom have a ‘first dance’ but now more and more brides are choosing to have a wedding dance with their father as well as their new husband.

Ashley Richmond of Texas married husband Nicholas in August but it was her and her fathers’ dance that stole the show.

Carhenge

It’s nice to have some trees and flowers in the garden, perhaps even some little gnomes or something similar…

But Stonehenge made of cars?

Artist Jim Reinders constructed the…artwork…in 1987 in rural Nebraska in America, and it’s recently been put on sale for $300,000. That’s about £186,294.

Every year around 100,000 visitor come to gaze at this – ehem – 24-year-old wonder, which shares exactly the same dimensions as the ancient stone original in the UK, but the group which owns it (Friends of Carhenge) can no longer afford to maintain the structure.

China’s Circ To Increase Equity Investment Cap For Insurers

The China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) is working on plans to widen insurers’ fund investment channels and moderately lift ceiling for insurance companies investing in stocks and funds, said Chen Wenhui, vice president of CIRC on Monday.

Chen made the remarks during 2011 Golden Kirin Forum organized by SINA (SINA.NY).

According to current regulations, the proportion of investment in stocks and funds by Chinese insurance companies should be less than 25 percent.

“CIRC intends to authorize non-insurance organizations to manage insurance funds, which helps insurance companies to preserve and raise their asset values,” Chen said.

Investment funds owned by insurance industry has exceeded 5 trillion yuan (US$786 billion) so far.

RICS Survey points to a sluggish market

Unoccupied property insurance clients might not be too happy with the surveying profession’s latest housing market research. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ UK Housing Market Survey for September shows house prices continuing to go down with the level of transactions also depressed. The RICS says that 23% more surveyors reported prices falling rather than rising over the last three months. Enquiries from new purchasers increased very slightly in September but instructions from new vendors were down.
